Welcome! This carrd serves as a lore page for Mari's pkmn verse, for a quick and accessible look into everything you may need to know before engaging with this verse. Note that I default to this verse with pokemon muses only, however I am flexible and comfortable with throwing this verse at any mutual who happens to have a pokemon verse as well. Likewise, mutuals with pokemon muses are allowed to request the main verse for interactions. Just be sure to let me know in replies or IMs!
QUICK GUIDE & TERMS.
I do not directly affiliate myself with the pokemon rpc. Though I may interact with its members, I am simply writing my own story and plot in this verse and I typically disregard 'dash canon' and community events. Likewise I don't engage in dash commentary. I am here to have fun and do my own thing!
Run it by me first and get my permission before treating my muse and her storyline as part of your main canon. Since Mari's pokemon verse has its own storyline developing, I personally prefer for any interactions to be a separate verse and not canon to your muse's main interactions. Please make sure you have my permission before treating Mari's storyline as canon to your muse's main developments.
Likewise, please respect my boundaries. Due to previous bad experiences in the pokemon rpc, I am typically wary and choose not to affiliate with the community for my own mental health. This includes not taking part in any sort of drama, community events, dash commentary, etc. Likewise, since I am writing this verse on a multifandom blog, I typically do not follow first unless I already know you and/or seen that you would be interested.
Mari is the same Mari from her main verse! She's been transported to the pokemon realm a la Legends Arceus or Centaurworld, and is now forced to adapt to this new realm while also undergoing the task of finding her way home and preventing certain disaster (as her lucario friend, Saga, puts it.) As of right now I do not have a proper 'Pokemon AU' where Mari is a trainer born and raised in the pokemon realm. Though I may explore that in the future, for now I'm more interested in the Isekai take of this verse.
This verse takes a progressive storyline approach, with flexible placement and a timeline. Aside from a few planned beats and additions to Mari's team, interactions are mostly fluid and do not directly effect the story I am going with. Basically I'm writing this verse with a means of Mari progressing as a trainer and as a character, but how she gets to these points is ultimately vague and based on individual interactions.
I am ultimately planning on writing a classic crossover plot with those who are comfortable! Monsters from Mari's realm will be spilling in slowly into the pokemon realm, but of course, I will only be exploring the actual storyline with partners who have interest. Otherwise, your typical pokemon adventures will occur with very minor story beats!
LORE.
Set a few months after the events of Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, Rathalos Rider and Champion of Mahana, Mari, is suddenly and inexplicably transported to the pokemon realm with little memory or knowledge of how she arrived there. Shortly after her arrival, she comes across the stubborn and courage Gible, Kip, whom proceeds to follow her and eventually bond with over the course of several days.After being stranded for over a week, the confused rider is found and taken in by a local, whom learns of her ordeal and manages to teach her the basics of this new world. Still unsure of how she got here, Mari sets out with Kip in tow, seeking a way home.Eventually, she encounters a wild Lucario, Saga, who at first feels threatened by her presence. Saga warns of approaching disaster and feels that Mari is somehow connected. However, the two eventually make peace, and Saga decides to aid Mari in finding her way through the pokemon realm while also attempting to unravel the mystery of her appearance.Now ward to a lucario and a companion to several dragon-type pokemon, Mari struggles and adapts to the realm, all while yearning for a way to return to the land she calls her home, and her loved ones. Little do they all know, that the two worlds may clash much sooner than expected . . .
TIMELINE.
The events of Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin come to a close. Mari and Ratha avert global disaster, and peace is restored to her homeland. As chieftess heir and the new Champion of her people, Mari resumes her duties looking after the mainland and works to maintain peace alongside her monsties.
Months laterβMari inexplicably arrives in the pokemon realm. Confused, shaken and with no memory of how she got here, she struggles to survive the first few days in this new realm. Early in her travels, she meets her future Gible, Kip.
Mari is taken in and briefly mentored by a local. She is taught the basics of this realm, about pokemon, about some of the technology and the system of the world she's found herself in. She is also given a rotomphone, who would act as a translator for the realm's different writing system.
Mari meets Echo, a small, abandoned noibat. He immediately gravitates to her, and the two bond. Echo joins Mari's team as its second member and yearns to become as strong as her.
Mari meets Saga. The lucario had been stalking her for weeks until this point, believing that she was a potential threat. After realizing that Mari is harmless and lost, Saga decides to join Mari's side as a guide and traveling partner. Mari learns of impending disaster from Saga, and the two set out to try and avert it while also looking for a way to return Mari home.
Mari is given a pokemon egg. Recalling her younger years where she hatched and raised monsties from similar beginnings, she immediately grows attached to it.
Mari meets Lios, a young bagon with the insatiable desire to fly. Though the two don't see eye-to-eye at first, Mari feels protective of the youngster, and eventually convinces him to join her party.
Mari's pokemon egg hatches into a fuecoco, Pua. Reminiscing of her bond with Ratha and yearning for his company, the rider immediately adopts Pua as a son figure.
Mari meets Leeka. This injured shiny trumbeak is stubborn and proud, but eventually warms up to Mari in her own way. Some time after she returns to the wild after her recovery, she joins Mari's party.
Mari meets Phoenix. This powerful talonflame attempted to attack one of her pokemon in an effort to acquire a meal, though it was quickly thwarted. After being accidentally captured by Mari in the process, Mari struggles to meet an equal footing with her.
A Stakataka appears. A fateful encounter with an Ultra Beast reveals that Saga is capable of Mega Evolution through means still barely understood by Mari. This revelation ends up raising more questions than answers.
Mari learns of Saga's story. The traveling lucario had lost her human companion to an accident that occurred on her home island of Poni. Having ended up in the care of Aether Foundation, Saga soon came to learn it's dark inner workings, and decided to flee after swallowing the last possession she had of her old friend: her mega stone, representing the bond they shared.
The Encounter with Palkia. Trusting in Saga's word to avoid the Aether Foundation, Mari finds one of Palkia's shrines with the aid of a friend. When attempting to contact the deity for some insight, Palkia not only appears, but violently attacks the group. The traumatic encounter fully awakens Mari's ability to sense the emotions of pokemon.
The First Wave. Realizing that she is trapped with no trustworthy leads to return home, Mari is forced to come to terms with her reality, all while preparing for the disaster that awaits. Little does she know, that the first monsters from her homeworld have already begun to wreak havoc . . .

After defeating Oltura and learning the truth behind the legend of Razewing Ratha, Mari was certain that her journey had finally come to an end. But months after the year-long adventure to unravel the mystery of a dark prophecy, this young rider has inexplicably found herself in another world.While struggling to adapt, Mari seeks a way to return to her homeland and to her loved ones, while attempting to avert another potential disaster along the way.

PERSONALITY.
Abrasive, athletic and tough, Mari beholds a strong enthusiasm and determinedness for the things that she tackles, even against her logic and better judgement. Sheβs the hands-on kind of girl, the type who likes to try things for herself and who runs blindly into situations and sort them out that way. Sheβs a bit brash on her exterior -- a jock. But donβt let that fool you; Mari is still loyal, sensitive and caring to her friends and monsties. Despite her loud and extroverted nature, sheβs surprisingly talented with creatures and handles them with gentle care and kindness.Unfortunately, Mariβs hands on, determined nature often causes her to be reckless and impulsive on decisions. She will willingly throw herself into danger, sometimes against the will of others, though in delicate situations she might feel poised to strategize first. Mari does not typically hide her feelings towards others,but deep down, sheβll hide her feelings and thoughts about herself.Mari is sometimes self-sabotaging as the result of self-doubt, implanted in her for standing in the shadow of her grandfather and being tasked with a responsibility that many do not trust her to carry rightly, including herself. She has a weird way of trying to cope; by throwing herself into her work or her fears in hopes of proving herself wrong, for better or for worse.Toward her enemies, Mari is known to hold strong grudges. She can be particularly violent, bitter and cold, and loves to throw punches just as much as she throws insults. She is incredibly protective of her companions and unwaveringly fierce. Mari has not once backed down from a fight out of terror.Other quirks include a general slight lack of personal space (typical of Mahanians, who sometimes greet each other by holding each othersβ faces.) Her rough playfulness that includes light punches, an enjoyment of all things cute (provided they arenβt annoying,) and her trademark cool smirk.
NOTABLE ABILITIES & SKILLS.
EMPATHY AND AURASENSE: A novice ability that Mari is still developing under the mentorship of Saga. Though a natural empath in her homeland, Mari still has yet to fully attune to the nature and emotions of pokemon. With further practice and focus, she may soon unlock the ability to sense the feelings of the local beasts, along with being able to sense auras.
MONSTER TELEPATHY: It is said that Mariβs grandfather, Red, possessed the ability to hear the voices of monsters. This is a talent that Mari did not inherit, but rather, began to develop over the course of her journey as a rider, especially with the Razewing Rathalos. While she cannot hear βvoicesβ the way that Red supposedly could, she is very in tune with their emotions and grasps a decent understanding of the meanings behind them.
BASIC SURVIVAL SKILLS: Mari possesses basic survival skills, the things needed for long nights spent outside of settlements, situations for when rations are low and when rest needs to be taken. This includes making campfires, hunting, cooking, boiling water, and making basic tools and weapons. Although, having her monsties around certainly makes these things easier.
WEAPON HANDLING: Mari is comfortable brandishing large weapons to defend herself and others from large monsters. She is particularly skilled with a hammer and favors a greatsword, but will use a bow and arrow if necessary. Sheβs not very good with a gunlance or a horn.
ENHANCED STRENGTH AND DURABILITY: A trait shared by all riders and hunters of her race, Mari is stronger and more durable than the average human. Sheβs nowhere near befitting of βsuperhuman,β but as a result of being descended from ancient dragonslayers, she is physically more capable than a regular human being. Mari can take a lot more hits and survive more intense conditions as a result of this.
ATHLETICISM: Mari is physically fit and well-built. She might not be very flexible, but her fitness has allowed her to do some pretty crazy stunts, such as leaping off of a tower jump on a departing airship (with a little help from Navirou.) She can throw a pretty good punch and knows basic martial fighting. Her friend Kyle has a mark on his nose to prove it.
OTHER TALENTS: Has a good singing voice, picked up some basic tracking skills from Reverto, likes to make little accessories. Cannot draw or dance to save her life.

The first pokemon to ever join her team, Mari stumbled upon Kip by chance shortly after arriving in the realm of Pokemon. She'd accidentally stepped on and tripped over the young Gible, evoking his ire. At first, Kip perceived her as a threat and a potential challenge, sensing her strength. However, upon realizing her ability to persevere, the gible eventually began to follow her out of a desire to learn from her and bonded. Though he's hotheaded, naughty and stubborn, he's a loyal companion of Mari's.

Species: Noibat

Notable Moves: Air Cutter, Screech, Gust
Mari's second pokemon. Echo was found after he had been abandoned by his previous trainer for being weak. He immediately attached himself to Mari upon being found, and the young rider took him under her wing. Echo is sensitive, but gentle and kind, and seeks to repay Mari's generosity by becoming a strong pokemon under her care.

A stoic little bagon born with the natural desire to fly, Lios quite literally fell into Mari's arms during an attempt to spread his nonexistent wings. Fearing for his safety (and having plenty of flashbacks to Ratha when he was a hatchling,) Mari did her best to shelter the little bagon, much to his disgruntlement. After realizing that she should be supportive of his desires and simply be there for him, the two began to see eye-to-eye, and Lios ultimately chose to follow Mari.

A young fuecoco whom Mari hatched from an egg that she received from a benevolent stranger. He's chipper, friendly, collects flowers and loves to sing. He regards Mari as his mother and the two share an incredibly close bond.
LEEKA
Species: Trumbeak (Shiny)
Gender: Female
Notable Moves: Drill Peck
A shiny Trumbeak whom Mari came across after it was injured. Leeka immediately displayed refusal to be helped, possessing incredible pride and stubbornness from the get-go. Due to Mari's own persistence however, she eventually came to appreciate the girl in her own way. Though she has since joined the party, Leeka is still stubborn and often does as she likes.

Notable Moves: ???
Though powerful, Phoenix is incredibly proud and is still coming to terms with her recent capture by Mari. She seems to have stoked a strong rivalry with Leeka.

Notable Moves: Aura Sphere, Dragon Pulse, Bone Rush
This mysterious Lucario began stalking Mari shortly after she arrived in the pokemon world, sensing a connection between her and an approaching disaster that she learned from the local Absols. Upon realizing that Mari was not a threat, she chose to aid the young rider in returning her home, and acts as her guide and protector. She has become a mentor and mother-figure to Mari, teaching her aurasense and how to attune her empathy to the natures of pokemon.
